Ugh. Had forgotten about that one.
Never a DC or a Marvel nerd myself, more of a King Features guy, always.
Yes, I wept with joy when they made the Prince Valiant/Flash Gordon crossover this winter.
If ever DC, then only the Batman Authorials (The Long Halloween), or, Vertigo (Northlanders). What I observe from a distance is that DC seems to employ authors of very varying quality. Some, like Jeph Loeb, for example, really seem to understand the topic they are writing about. Some, like Grant Morrison, don't seem to do so, at all.
To return to Moore, though, I think he's still worth a read, simply because he tries to treat all his topics in a sophisticated way. Doesn't always mean he'll produce a masterpiece, but at least he's not as repetitive as others. - At least to me. -

I'm not really into occult philosophy per se but I really enjoyed Promoethea. If nothing else it gives a sort of metaphorical window into how Moore views his own creative process. The art was really pretty amazing too (hurray JH Williams III!).
@Mordschlag: If you like some of the stories from the Yuggoth collection, definitely read this....

However, We all know that this is Alan Moore's best comic, and the only "modern" comic that is both written AND drawn completely by Moore.

my conspiracy theorist father posted one of his(moore's) quotes involving welfare society and people that drain society.i had to enlighten him that he just quoted the author of some of those "stupid fucking comic books"he used to ride my ass about when i was a teen.
also, that's big talk coming from a guy that makes money making up stories.most people actually have to leave the house and go to work...what an asshole.
i think that great talent often turns one into a total nutter.
