Nope, that was Alex Ross and Mark Waid. :)
Moore is probably the only mainstream "artistic" writer of comic books out there, and, as others have said, go and get his stuff. It's, if not always particularly intelligent, some of the most engaging comic book reading I personally have ever encountered.
Check out "From Hell". That one was insanely intense. -

Alan Moore has been dining out on the watchmen for decades now. His superman, green lantern and swamp thing runs were great for their time, but his constant bitching about current comics and writers really pisses me off, especially about the new watchmen prequels, which so far have been outstanding.
