Who would've thought that a thread about psychotherapy on an internet forum would spiral into a competition to call eachother narcissists?
Ironically, I only made the thread because I didn't see my name enough times under "new posts." I feel strangely content.Last edited by lordbd; 6/12/2012 6:35pm at .

I would have to agree; not that Dog the Bounty Hunter is handsome, but that you would not be wrong. I would just have to say that our tastes differ greatly (probably shake my head and roll my eyes) and hope that the majority agreed with me instead of you. This would, of course, prove Devil's societal norms case.
Again though, it would be nothing more than my personal opinion, not based on any scientific fact or philosophical meaning.Last edited by slamdunc; 6/12/2012 8:18pm at .

Referring back to the discussion earlier about what exactly constitutes narcissism (or any other mental illness for that matter), I would mention that most diagnoses in the DSM-IV-TR have the qualifier that one must have a certain number of symptoms etc. etc. and must also either experience 1) subjective distress due to the symptoms or 2) significant functional impairment. Most personality disorders dont meet that first criteria but may well meet the second. But I suppose if you have all the traits of narcissism, but go into show-biz and can somehow hold down a meaningful relationship, you still wouldn't technically have NARCISSISTIC PERSONALITY DISORDER according to the DSM-IV. Psychodynamic theories, on the other hand, are less interested in distress and symptoms per se, and more interested in the theorized underlying conflicts that might be going on within a person.
