He's Muh furenhd Val
Yes, I have been hit and can deliver.
Is it magic? No.
Does it work? yes.
The basic principle is NOT related to "Fa Jing" very much* in my opinion, although in all FORCEFUL punching there is some overlap.
(Proper Fa Jing if it exists would probably INCLUDE these ideas but not be based directly upon them.)
The KEY is to RELAX and THROW the fist (or strike) "ballistically" -- double the speed and quadrupal the kinetic energy (simple physics), remove NO force through 'holding back' through tension or early retraction and deliver a higher percentage of the force generated.
It's related to telling a boxer, "Let your hands GO".
Put ALL the force or energy INTO the target rather than pulling it back.
You can use the principle with ANY punch, but doing it without using a lot of body commitment (balance or weight) also works.
Doing it with OTHER methods of generating power (turning, dropping, body movement etc) generates and more importantly TRANSFERS maximum energy to the target.
There's a bit more to it, but the above explains the simple physics at least by analogy so that logically you can see and understand it is not merely hype.

***Was this quote "taken out of context"?***
"The judoist has no time to allow himself a margin for error, especially in a situation upon which his or another person's very life depends...."

a word from someone who is a close firend of val
hay guys just wanted to say, that I know Val and his family, they have lived in dubai for the last 4 years now and are good friends of my family, we all ust to live in the same gated community and i would oftain hang out with val's son kevin and train with them both. Now as for his total knowledge of martial arts, im still alittle bit in the dark, even after knowing him for 4 years and regularly being around him and his family for 3 of thous years the only person i saw using sambo/judo or systema was his son kevin. Val showed me some old tapes of his work in london and showed me only a handful of live demonstrations but i can tell you know this man is a tank. one morning after a long night of cod 4 on the xbox with kev i went downstairs to get some breakfast and val was just sat there in the living room eating a bowl of cornflakes watching tv while curling a 20kg weight like it was nothing. so i would say from my experience sparing against his son and watching him train hes the real deal but even in the who systema thing is smoke and mirrors the man himself is a huge fitness freak and even in his late 40s still far fitter then most 20 year olds i train with on a tuesday night.
