Putting this message here because I'm not sure how to email you.

    Thanks Alan.

My input on the matter is I personally counter this by pushing their knee (in this case) away and to your inside to prevent the leverage. Would you press the situation here or would switch your opponents legs to a standard position.

    Also, why 4/11?

Hi Alan, great video, I'm signed up.

I take it the emphasis on the 4-11 position is to avoid the mexican standoff you can get into at 50/50?

    Holy **** it's Alan Belcher.

Fucking amazing fighter! On a win streak right now too :)
Any plans for another fight against Akiyama? You were robbed in that fight, imo.

Sweet video. Those kids are starting young!

Thaaaat was awesome. How hard would it be to hit the achilles lock instead, if you were fighting in an environment were heel hooks were not kosher?
    The fool thinks himself immortal,
    If he hold back from battle;
But old age will grant him no truce,
    Even if spears spare him.

So we just got done playing with it. The counter I mentioned worked half the time. Will work out the kinks.

Thanks for posting this here. Do you have any ruleset specific counters to uchi-mata if you are competing in a tournament that bans kani basami or heel hooks? If so, would you mind sharing sometime?

By the way, GREAT job against Palhares.

I would have to see the counter you're talking about. Do you mean basically I'm squeezing my knees on your leg, and you push them apart to "unsqueeze them? If so that is a really smart way to fight leglocks in general. Once you take away my leg pressure you can use your other leg to fight my grips, and then start to turn your heel into my ribs where I can't hook it. Very smart defense, but there is one here I find a little easier. I'll share it in a video soon!

Also their are probably other names for this position with other reasons, but the reason we call it the 4/11 position is because you have a "Figure 4" triangle locked on one of your opponents legs which are both stretched out resembling the number "11". From here you have a plethora of offensive options; most of which are submissions attacking the legs.

Not necessarily. 50/50 is a pretty dynamic position, but I personally like the control and security I get with 4/11 if I'm going after someones legs, which I don't normally. I guess you could say I don't always use leglocks, but when I do I use the 4/11.

Thanks Colin! I don't think a fight with Akiyama is very likely, especially now that he is at 170. And we start advanced BJJ training for kids at age7; we have a pretty killer kids team too. Took them to NAGA Memphis and all 11 that competed took 1st place or 2nd place. a lot of them even did it in 2 divisions! They're little killers.

Well if heel hooks aren't allowed then usually this takedown, and position are also illegal. To get 4/11 you have to reap the knee.
