DVANCE Martial Arts academy coach Joel Szepesvary believes teenager Ty Duncan has proved event detractors wrong with an impressive performance in his debut cage fight.
When 16-year-old Duncan was scheduled to fight 26-year-old Brisbane contender Dean Purdon in a Fury Challenges Series event at Maroochydore, the bout was received with mixed sentiment.
Australian MMA Association vice-president Mick Cutajar condemned the match-up, suggesting it should be illegal.
However, Duncan won in convincing fashion last Saturday when he produced an arm-bar submission manoeuvre less than three minutes into the fight.Dum spiro, spero. -

And yet there are comments like this, from the ironically named 'SomeOneSmarter':
I appreciate the concept of applauding his talent, but we are all custodians of this community and this country.
From that perspective, great job promoting underage violence.
What next, a bunch of slinky top-heavy female models in scant underwear playing football? - http://www.sunshinecoastdaily.com.au/...

WHAT HAVE WE BECOME? - Self indulgent people!
I appreciate the concern the 'SomeOneSmarter' has for protecting young people, but I am not sure if he is being ironic or a f***tard with his other comments.
Regarding youth combat, I seem to recall in the movie "Boys' Town" a boxing match without headgear. I also recall boy's adventure heroes like Tintin and Billy Batson would get involved in fights all the time. Maybe we are becoming a world of over-protective people, or are we just realizing how stupid we were to let kids take those kinds of risks?
In the SCA teenagers used to fight with adults, then they banned the practice, presumably to protect themselves should a parent sue if their kid got hurt. Now there is "youth combat," in which kids from 7-15 fight with boffers, and 16-18 with rattan, and I think they are even allowing or experimenting with letting 16-17-year-olds fight with the grown-ups. this may be part of the SCA's growing trend towards looseining up their rules.
That having been said, major props for Ty for training hard enough to be ready for this kind of bout. -

http://www.sunshinecoastdaily.com.au...-says/1879046/YOUNG Coolum fighter Ty Duncan is intent on following in the footsteps of fellow Sunshine Coast competitors Kyle Noke and Ryan Dunstan, who have featured in the Ultimate Fighter television series.
Duncan created a stir last year when he made his debut in the sport.
The then 16-year-old and his camp were criticised in some quarters for taking on an older opponent.
But the teenager proved he was up to the task and beat Dean Purdon, 26, within three minutes via an arm-bar manoeuvre.
And after beating New Zealand's Ryan Reece, 30, within two minutes via a naked choke, the Advance Martial Arts fighter is primed to further his burgeoning career in the cage.
The 17-year-old is expected to fight on the Fury 6 card in Caloundra in June and victory there may secure him a tilt at a Fury welterweight title.
The pic was taken last night at training while we were drilling armbars (fundamentals class in the background learnin' shrimpin'). It's amazing how the newspaper's tune has turned around in 12 months.Dum spiro, spero. -

Yeah not a suprise. When people learn that both people generally walk out of these things OK. They tend to stress less.
