yeah any place they go 100% al the time and people are getting knocked out should be avoided. you wont see ANY top level gym always going 100%, if ever.

The things is that's what attracted me to them. After a while I found myself getting hurt and more time at home than training. Also they throw knees during sparring to the stomach and leg area. The Thai gym I went to before they didn't allow this to prevent injuries. Do other Thai gyms allow knees during sparring?

we tend to do clinch sparring seperately, depending on the skill level of the fighters, because yeah a misplaced knee is a one way trip to broken ribsville. easier to control. plus, clinch fighting is a pretty important part of muay thai anyway. we get a lot of guys from other gyms who neglect it come along for some training and have sore necks for a week afterwards.
always going full power will retard your growth. youll be afraid to try anything new for fear of being punished for it. its a **** idea. dont go there.Nick says:

What Alex said. There's a time and place to get in there and bang it out, but that's not every day, every time. Also, the trainer sounds like a prick, and if you don't like or respect the people you're working with, you're not going to enjoy it.
FYI, it's completely possible for a gym to be crap without being a mcdojo(in it for the money) or bullshido(false claims, fraudulent credentials). For instance, only having one coach is pretty common in smaller gyms. And it's also fairly normal for muay thai fighters to never have done anything in a cage. If they have no ring experience, there's a pretty big red flag. That said, the place sounds shitty anyway. Go somewhere else. -
