What's really fun is that Jefferson was complaining about all these same things in 1790. Andrew Jackson specifically warned of the dangers of corporations sponsoring candidates in the 1830's; and Teddy Roosevelt railed against the industrial complex dictating politics though his entire reign (yes, reign. Teddy reigned, goddammit...).

plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose, folks!

So whether it's "no new taxes" or "hope and change," remember that a presidential election is just a protracted ad campaign. The product is usually crap, but the marketing is slick, and the game is rigged so you only get two products to chose from. When you think about it (and I do NOT recommend you think about it too much. It's depressing...) every election is just the same "coke or pepsi" decision repeated. Both products are so similar as to be nearly indistinguishable to someone not already heavily invested in one or the other, and you HAVE to chose one.
And this is why I might have do do what one of my brothers does. My brother votes "No Progress". His theory is that by voting in somebody who will fight against everybody else currently holding political office that your chances of getting no progress at all are much increased.

This of whole concept is based on the belief that the government accomplishing nothing is far superior to the government actually accomplishing anything at all.

This advice seems sound until the bridge you're driving on collapses, or you wake up to that hurricane surprise, or you find lots of rat **** in your post toasties. (etc) When it gets personal, everyone wants to whine about how the gubmint didn't do enough.

    C. None of the above.

I agree completely with Scrapper. I used to be all into politics, elections, Republican vs. Democrat, etc. Then I grew up.

I haven't followed the primaries and I won't follow the campaigns. And I say that with pride. **** these assholes. When it's time to vote, I'll go cast my vote for the guy who isn't Obama. Not that I like the other shithead either.

Wait, was all the glitchiness on the site over the last few days due to the introduction of a political forum?!

See, politics fucks up everything it touches - no exceptions.

I think the important thing to remember is that it doesn't really matter how you plan on voting, because Mitt Romney has the same chance of winning as John Kerry had in 2004. Which is to say, none.

Obama is a tool of the oligarchy, true. That said, Mitt is such an asshole that, while I'll write in Tirebiter or go green or socialist worker or some damn thing, Mitt takes it to another level of asshole.
