    Headbutting in CMA

Is something I read about being in some styles like Baji and Xinyiliuhequan but I never actually see in video form. Brain damage aside, the headbutt is a pretty effective strike given that its a foul in almost every sport and the head's natural hardness as a striking surface. What I'm wondering is has anyone here trained to strike with a headbutt? Are there any good videos of applications or drills for a headbutt? Just curious.

There were two altercations where the other guy tried to head butt me. Unfortunately for those two individuals, they attempted the head butt from too far away. Every other fight I have seen ( that was not on Youtube ) the butt was done improperly, to the chagrin of the butter.

You don't want to use anything below your brow line, and you don't want to strike anything as hard as the other guy's forehead. Forehead vs. temple is good. I've even been trained to headbutt someone's fist in a grapple. That might not be the best plan in the world but if it works, you've taken away one of the guy's strikes.

My system incorporates a few head-butts (front, back, and side) into the self-defense arts. I would be more concerned with whiplash than brain damage unless you hit the wrong target.

    Play soccer/futbol.
I've head-butted the crap out of a couple of guys, and went on to enjoy my evening in both cases.

Finally, have you never seen Master Killer/36 Chambers?!
    Pah!!!

I had a sifu who liked using the headbutt - referred to it as the "third fist". He was a crazy little man, and screwed up his neck trying to improve his headbutt by repeatedly bonking his head into a cinderblock wall ( la Pan Qing Fu's fist conditioning).

Iron head make you stupid? I still have to see that movie lol.

My Sifu has explained how a headbutt works/is properly done, and it's possible to be incorporated into our style, but in our classes we don't do any specific headbutt training. Probably because nobody wants to drive home late at night with a killer headache. :P

There's also a fight in the original Drunken Master where Jackie fights a guy called the Iron Headed Rat.

That's right forgot him too, he was a recurring character.
He was in Fearless Hyena (possibly my favorite JC movie).

Was it 36 Chambers that had the two rows of guys banging their heads together for conditioning, or something else?
Been a while since i watched any of those.

If the timing and distance are right it might save your life, at a price. I'd have to be in a desperate way to want to try one.

Must've been something else. The only skull conditioning they do in 36 Chambers is against the punching bags.
