Wow. The Kyokushin (spelling?) guys get a lot of respect around here, while the chun guys alwasy get **** on. I don't know anything about either MA. But, these vids make it seem as if maybe the chun guys shouldn't get crapped on so much.

The default assumption for EVERY martial art is the they do NOT work. As multiple practitioners demonstrate success against fully resisting opponents the art has proven to be effective. Many people try to flip the default assumption and claim effectiveness of their art. Often they hide this by claiming it is a matter of respect or claim its the artist not the art. Another tactic is to reduce the standard of proof by claiming their art is too deadly to demonstrate effectiveness or the rules used for safety are too restrictive for their art to be effectiveness. Others claim compliant drills are all the proof that us needed.

Various Chunners have repeatedly engaged in these behaviors while the art falls well short of the criteria of "multiple practitioners demonstrating success against a fully resisting opponent". Kyukushin karate has met this criteria.

On a side note these videos speak against the claim of "too deadly to spar". Some even when they show some success they contradict themselves.

Sorry for the horrendous grammar above. I am using my phone to post.

Two other issues with the chun:

    1) The claims of its superiority to all other systems, being effective for all situations, and needing no physical conditioning raises the level of proof even higher.
    2) They often claim other Chunners are false Chunners without true lineage. So any video can only be evidence if you get them to agree that we are watching the "true" chun.

Based on two videos and no knowledge, that's your assessment? Okay.

Striking is not my strong point, but the kyokushin guy was behaving like he was sparring with another kyokushin guy i.e wade straight in and lay into each other with body punches. Not sure why there is a total lack of kicks/knees though.

I do not think he could understand being punched in the face, as was totally unprepared for it.

To me this shows that kyokushin may make tough fighters, but to use it in a non-kyokushin area needs adaption.

Yes, it is a flaw, but lets stop using THESE videos as a critique of kyokushin as if it reprsents a majority of the art. People wouldn't be shocked if these videos were COMMON vs Kyokushin. They are not. There are many more Kyokushin vs Tsun videos where the chunner gets destroyed.

I am all for giving people props, until some of you get ridiculous.

Let's be real, we say the same damn thing about chun for any organized competition.
