This is basically the same culture that supported the faction fights in Ireland (organized brawls, often featuring stick fighting), going back into the 1800s. We had a thread about that on the WMA Forum a while back.Check out the Bullshido.net Western Martial Arts Forum for all things Western, martial and arty.

Oh ok! Thanks for the education. I have a lot of family that live in the country. If people showed up like that, they would get shot, pretty quick. So, they are protected by the government or something? Pretty bizarre!

You ring the local council to lodge a complaint that people are now laying down concrete and installing caravans on land that until this morning was yours. The local council informs you that its a bank holiday weekend and they can't do anything until Tuesday morning.
By Tuesday morning your field on which you were growing crops now has several concrete pitches on it, it has connections to gas, electricity and water up and running. The local council inform you that now there are buildings on your property and they have applied for retrospective planning permission.
You then face 5-10 years of legal battles trying to prove that the land you owned and farmed is yours, that the people who just turned up on your land - stole it and built on it aren't supposed to be there.
All of your legal side is funded at your expense, but the legal side of the people who stole your land and are now living on it is funded out of the public purse through legal aid.
Welcome to the world of farmers in 21st century Britain who have no private property protection from Gypsies.

That is nuts. Yeah, I would hate those people too. That gets my blood boiling just thinking of it. I would imagine that it gets pretty ugly when that stuff goes on.

And don't forget that gypsies can now play the race card too. Fortune may favour the brave but the law favours the pikey.Train hard, fight easy.

At the risk of disrupting the right-wing echo chamber in here, mostly the disputes resolve around gypsies and travellers being unable to get planning permission to build on land that they rightfully own rather than being encamped on someone else's. There also used to be a legal requirement for local authorities to provide pitches, which the Tories helpfully got rid of.
US-types, our country is much, much smaller than yours and land correspondingly more expensive. We don't have legal trailer parks in any substantial numbers because anything you can permission to live on can so much more profitably be turned into housing.
