Wonderful, how none of the idiots on the sulky's weren't killed by one of the on-coming lorries is a mystery to me.
If memory serves me there are some dual-carriage ways (in Sussex??) where there are signs up saying that racing horse drawn buggies is banned. Not that the travellers take a blind bit of notice.... -

Hey ... having fun reading this thread, and loving how it diverged into a political discussion. At a glance it might seem like it's totally off topic, but I don't think so. Travellers show us many interesting things about government and state. Makes it a natural segway.
Traveller culture stirs up so many emotions for a reason. For instance they demonstrate that you can be a parasitic asshole and still live a good life.
This naturally makes the hard working citizens pretty mad. Most normal people work all day in a job that doesn't really satisfy them all that much, just to pay their expenses. Then, along comes some guys who just runs some scams, steals some ****, and they're at the same level materially. And not only that, they have tenfold the amount of time to lounge around, socialize, fight and generally have a good time. You know, that stuff other people work so hard to be able to do (or even just simulate on the boob tube or in video games.)
The ruling class in a society of course does exactly the same thing on a much larger scale, but at least they have the sense and decency to keep their debauchery a bit out of public view.
Communism, capitalism, whateverism, who cares. The peasants always takes it up the ass. They end up bent over for simple reasons; for one they are generally nice people. This even applies to the middle classes. They may stab each other in the back or lie for small advantages, but the big stuff don't even occur to them ... 'cause they're nice. I think Hitler said something snarky about that (let's not beat around the Godwin bush here.)
OK, so travellers show people that something is wrong. Basically that the working class man doesn't get a proportionately fair share according to the effort he puts into society. However, all the distasteful traits of the travellers like their arrogance and dishonesty makes people throw the baby out with the bathwater. And travellers become a lightning rod drawing public anger. Which is why ruling castes everywhere love them.
I'd like to say something about communism/capitalism too.
The flaws in capitalism are so obvious that I won't even bother with that. Communism is more insidious; it sounds kind of like a good idea, and is hard to get a hold of. Now, being that there's a lot of communists where I live and I've discussed it a lot, here's the point I usually end up on:
All the serious communist theoreticians agree (and I agree too,) that to make it work you have to disband the family unit. And you have to do it completely. Now if that isn't the most utopian thought ever I don't know what is. Do I even have to explain it? Just think about it for a while, both in a personal and historical sense. If you have kids you understand at once. If you are a young idealist from a dysfunctional family, it might take some time.
And please, don't come dragging Scandinavia as an example of any merit to socialism. I live here and believe me, it's fucking broken. But I won't go into that.
Well... about those travellers ... looks like a jolly good time was had by all. Makes you think.

Coarsing, baiting, poaching and dog fighting are also wonderful pastimes of the gypsy community.

The worrying thing is that if the whole world plunges into economic termoil and society crumbles as we know it the good ol' pikey would probally come out on top. They learn to fight ( boxing), learn to survive off of the land ( coursing, poaching) and are all sucessful entrepreneurs ( stealing, horse selling and scrap metal collecting)
They're a self sufficient bunch, you gotta admire that -

Sweden's current government is conservative with a Libertarian chancellor.
Lefties are forever banging on about Scandinavia and how its supposedly a triumph of so called 'social democracy'. They, however, ignore the facts that don't suit the narrative.
In Denmark 65% of fire brigades and 85% of ambulance services are provided by the private sector. Income below £42,000/$66,000 is taxed at 3.67%, yes that decimal point is in the right place. Then above that at 15%, in contrast the vicious capitalistic UK charges 40% for earnings over £40,000. Total Danish income taxes are slightly higher than that figure due to commune taxes, but its still not that high.
You'd have to abolish the $7.25 minimum wage, because none of the Scandinavian countries have a minimum wage.
Sweden abolished inheritance tax, wealth tax and gift tax.
You'd need to hugely increase the cost of living for the poor, because they all have high VAT or Sales tax 20-25% would be the level you'd have to raise it to.
So low income and corporate taxes, but very high consumption taxes. Privatised emergency services, privatised healthcare oh and you'd need to cut you'r population by about 90%.
