    Sando Event

Well tonight I had the displeasure of watching a San Do event here at Virginia Tech. I had never heard of it before, so I gave it a try and pretty much expected what I saw.

For those that don't know, it's 3 guys fighting for 3 rounds in what amounts to an awkward combination of guys running from each other and innumerable sucker punches. The best part is that when all 3 guys are in the fight, you can only strike. You can take somebody down, but you have to let them get back up or else the ref wags his finger at you. It's really only interesting once a guy gets knocked out and it returns to a two man fight.

Even better than the actual fighting is the atmosphere they try to create. A guy dressed up as a samurai presents a "sword" to the winner after each fight amongst smoke, music, and lights (think a poor man's WWE). There's also 3 "Grandmaster" San Do judges that sit at the far end of the ring and do nothing. Standing next to them are two body guards (wearing a suit jacket and jeans no less - not to mention their aviators). The whole thing is ridiculous. It honestly felt like we were in the middle of a Rush Hour movie. Needless to say, after two fights we left. Thank god students got in for free...

I don't know if they were drunk when they wrote the description on the website, but the rounds definitely weren't quick (or intense for that matter)..

Anybody else seen one of these "fights" or have thoughts on them? So unfortunate. I'm sure in the next few days they'll upload the video so everybody can experience it.

    Understood.

Essentially the reason I put it in here is because it does seem like BS..

I could be wrong, but don't be surprised is all I'm saying. Although you should have stayed longer and reported on more hilarity.

    From the site:
Two-man fights were great for a time. So were silent movies.
    Jumping Jesus.

How did this ever get sanctioned? Oh yeah, Virginia. Nuff said.

One of the guys from my team did this. Apparently they had him up against a UFC vet and a Bellator vet. I had a death in the family so missed this and an mma card with a few of my friends on it last night. Anyone have video? His name is Adrian Miles. He was looking good in training last week, but his opponents looked tough too.
FACT- Eddie Bravo invented the triangle choke when he used it to tap out helio gracie at an ac/dc concert.
