    It is an interior decorating trick to make a small space look bigger. Gives an illusion of depth. Some McDojos will say it is so students can see their form and postures. If someone ever tells you that ask them "Why am I paying you ?"

    No, try again. He didn't ask why was there a mirror there? He was asking why was there no backing on the mirror? Christ, even a bit of thin plywood would have done the trick.

    Because some contractors have a shoddy reputation to maintain and properly backed mirrors aren't going to make people think you're cheap and lazy.

    Maybe they couldn't find nails long enough to go through the plywood and the mirror ?
