What does a hacker do? Who pays you?
Originally, no one paid me. I donated code to open source projects I used. After school (or more appropriately, after I got bored of school), I went to work for a bunch of dot coms. Now I'm corporate. Things like good insurance and retirement accounts start to become attractive when you start thinking about kids.

Given that I am not a big spender and like the simple life I often am tempted to live a life on benefits and just train all day everyday, the govt would give me enough to eat, sleep and live on, wouldnt have to pay any tax, Free health care etc... In England being unemployed is often far more attractive than taking low paid work.

I think I have always worked because all of my family do, saying that, I live in a real shitty area and I am pretty much the only person who does work.

One of my best mates is 26 and never worked....he cares for his 2 autistic younger brothers, but one day he is gonna have to get an income.

By the way, why should you be panicked out by your friend? You are in Thailand, doing what you want to do, living your dream. Thatīs much greater than some random job, no matter the salary.

Just always remember Douglas Adams: "Donīt Panic".
I think I tend to measure my own "progress" by that of my peers, so if I think people are gettin the jump on me then I start worrying I am being left behind or I am missing a trick.

Maybe I need to listen to "Sunscreen"

Oh, so you're just gay-gay then?

(Talk about a hanging curve...) I knew a guy who ran some websites in that industry. He said it was actually pretty depressing after a while.

Yeah, stop that. Or, if you canīt, then at least measure by your own values.

The progressive soul-death, degradation and destruction of the girls over time. Lots of drug addiction. Fresh-faced young thing comes in, a few years later, well, not so much. Not all of them, of course, but enough that he wanted out.
