Guy Who Pays the Bills and Gets the Death Threats Style: MMA (Retired)--
It'd take a ridiculously large amount of time to go into it all, but let's just say we had a minor diaspora over Aesopian being given the opportunity to run a forum on this site. There was much wailing and gnashing of teeth within the staff at the time, both in public and in private, and we lost a few people from the staff, and more members over it.
As far as his example goes: dedicate more than just class time to your study of a martial art, and it'll pay off greatly. Aesopian approaches things scientifically, methodically, and heuristically, with regards to BJJ, and doesn't just bumble through his training hoping to get better just by showing up.
He's also one of the reasons why we've got the Training Logs section in the VIP area; because you get more out of your training if you document your successes and failures, and analyze trends and the overall course of your progression. -

Almost three years. I lost over a year for a shoulder injury and about two months this year for a torn meniscus and mcl. My attendence is spotty due to career/family obligations. At best I was getting to class two to three times a week before the knee, trying to get back into the swing of it now. Our sunday night class got dropped, that one was the easiest for me to make it to. I had to take a vacation day last week just to get to a thursday morning class (I might have to do that next week too). I hope you are doing better than that.
I blame Bullshido for this whole fiasco. I was perfectly happy larping in aikijujitsu before I found this damn site. aliveness. Bah. -

I'm with you, before bullshido I thought I was a legit bad arse fighter because I had been in "streetfights" (read: drunken brawls). I blame and praise bullshido in the same breath for teaching me otherwise. But yeah, similar thing, I've been a white belt for about 3 years, mainly due to continuous moving of area and also doing judo in between.
