Your comment had a whif of the chun. I am sure that if you got hit in the eyeball with a whip, it would be a pretty terrible day, but if I was charging in on a guy that was using just a whip, what would I be protecting?
I did find the info about using it compliment with a dagger to be interesting. -

Guarding your head is first priority, of course. But my point stands that the whip does have stopping power, especially when it meets especially delicate areas such as the eye. The crack of the whip would probably be pretty painful if it happened close enough to your ear, though I'm not sure it would completely stop a person, it'd definitely stun them.
I'll just wield a chair with my whip. Keep 'em at a safe distance. Then I can be a circus man! -

Well, a man armed with a knife and a whip is certainly going to be more dangerous than an unarmed man and probably more dangerous than a man with just a knife. On the other hand, the same could be said for a man with a ROCK and a knife - and I think the rock plus knife combo could work pretty well against Captain Castlevania. I'm sure bull whips were handy in fights from time to time but probably mostly to people who used them for other tasks already and for whom they were already expedient. Going out of your way to train with them because they're super effective seems silly.

That ricochet rock was such a lame weapon in Castlevania!
Yeah. I train it sometimes because it's uncommon, a skill that can be very highly developed (not necessarily as a fighting art but as a focus/precision/timing tool) so it's not easy to get bored with, and some chicks dig it.I'm sure bull whips were handy in fights from time to time but probably mostly to people who used them for other tasks already and for whom they were already expedient.
