I'm going to carefully word this: wouldn't the disadvantages of having limbs like that be balanced by the advantages of having limbs like that in competition? I mean, he is phenomenal at holding the guy down, but then he goes for a submission and can't hold it, ends up on his back and then when the guy goes to grab his limb to seemingly put on an armlock, he is able to easily scoot out the back door because it seems like the guy has no limb to hold on to and puts the guy on his back again. You can clearly see the guy trying to "catch" his non existent limbs for a sweep or reversal like he would do to another competitor with limbs, but fails because there is nothing to "catch". When he mounts him, anyone with the full leg would have much more difficulty due to having to clear the defending knee, but Kyle doesn't. I just want to reiterate how awesome Kyle is at holding the other guy down, obviously his awareness of weight distribution and strength of his core are amazing attributes.

I'm just saying if you train everyday with people who have full limbs, then compete against someone who has no limbs but who trains (probably) exclusively to deal with people with limbs, you're likely going to have problems.

Don't get me wrong, dude is awesome and has my full respect for gameness and overcoming adversity.

Sounds similar to the southpaw's advantage. I also figure that he's probably got a stronger core for his weight, because he's got to use it more anyway and because of the weight afforded by limbs compared to everyone else in his weight class. At any rate, I think everyone strives to find and cultivate their advantages and minimize disadvantages, and Kyle's a great case study of this. One of the eskrima guys I train with had pre-polio as a kid which gave him a leg deformity and a limp, and there are ways he can't move/shift weight without risking collapsing, but his stickfighting is amazingly fast and technical, and he finds ways around his personal mobility problems.

I just can't fathom how he could've developed a guillotine and RNC defense good enough to stave off serious opponents sans the arms.

But apparently he could. And he subs people, sans arms.

Kyle Maynard is a delusional attention whore as well.

Also, Maynard has been talked about endlessly on Bullshido already.

Either way, I have a dodgy knee which has 'held me back' in the past- this is pretty cool. Its not the doing it which impresses me, so much as the doing it in from of everyone.
