Squatting past parallel is not ridiculous. But I entirely agree that lifting is wildly underrated among martial artists, and among the populace in general, and it is a tragedy.
Although I see the author's point, I think that it will be taken by far too many as an excuse generator. People should be moving as fast as possible to the full versions of the lifts, not finding reasons to self-coach themselves further into weakness and anti-mobility.What a disgrace it is for a man to grow old without ever seeing the beauty and strength of which his body is capable. -Xenophon's Socrates -
