Okay I'm a day late but I didn't see this thread.
If I'm downstairs I'm usually in the kitchen (inb4kitchensareforwomen). The stove always has a medium sized frying pan or small stew pot on it, and sometimes the lid is there. I don't need a kitchen knife. If I'm closer to the closet, I'll just grab the broom. If I'm in my bed in my room on the 2nd floor, I have a baseball bat to my left, and my buck knife in front of me.
I just realized how screwed I am if I'm in the living room, since there's absolutely nothing there to use...
