Arseniy Grebnov - Austin, TX

Just wondering if anyone has heard of this guy... He just opened a systema school a few blocks from my house.

Now, I don't really give a damn about systema, other than morbid curiosity, but he lists sambo in his credentials. That's what I'm interested in. I just wonder how you can have studied sambo and still buy into systema, in any form or fashion.

Anyone?

He's at least Belorussian, that has to count for something.

I don't know anything about Systema. But, it seems pretty clear that the guy knows what he's doing. Maybe you should go and check it out. Either way, what do you see that warrants an investigation?

If he's a legitimate sambo guy, I'd like to train with him. Good enough?

OK. So, I spent a couple of minutes looking at Systema. It seems like a good martial art for doomesday preppers. Either way, it still looks like that instructor knows what he's talking about. ****, I might go and check out a class, even though it's like 45 minutes away.

It looks like he used to be in NJ and the dude is flexible. He does hang out with everyone's favorite Aikido magician, the writer of Dragon Orb. He trains at the place Matl Sensei has had classes at. Maybe Steve or Dayn DeRose know something as he was in their neck of the woods. I know he is a Vasiliev guy if that means anything. Let me know what is what. We'll talk when I get back.

I see threads like this in here all the time... Is X instructor legit, etc.? What makes this one different? I would question most anyone who speaks highly of sambo and systema in the same breath, as my exposure to systema seems like a bunch of TMA esotericism. Sambosteve told me that there is some legitimate systema out there, but that isn't typically the case.

If the mods don't like where it is, then they'll move it.
