It does, but they tend to cross train and compete at the right schools. So, the ridicule has died down.

This has been discussed from Kung fu to the booj. If you never sparred how do you suddenly ramp up sparring? You don't or it takes YEARS to become mediocre.

You need to go outside and get help. None of these "Ancient" arts want to "pollute" themselves and then you get people saying "well we almost spar like this stagnant art; we are legit."

if ever there was an abuse of the term alive...
"like a normal person would", keeping your arm out, overreacting, anticipating strikes, 45 degree angles everywhere, low stance etetc

That's the most common misinterpretation and what caused the degradation of TMAs.

I'm surprised nobody thought of this, but...if Togakure ryu was historically legitimate, it would've: 1.) Been based off Koshu ryu, not off Iga ninjutsu. Togakure is in Nagano, which was ruled by Takeda Shingen, whom the Nishina family served during the Warring States. Koshu ryu is a school of ninjutsu taught to Takeda retainers.

And 2.) The lineage would be consistent. It goes from Nagano, to Iga, then to Koka, then back to Iga, then to Kishu, and finally Iga once more. A lot of the names also are either from the Bansenshukai, the Shoninki, or from manga.
