How long have you been doing judo?
My best advice is to understand when you are in a potentially dangerous position grip wise and what attacks you are likely to encounter from the position you are in. This also relates to how you are carrying yourself, knowing that when you drop into jigotai you are vulnerable to things like Ouchigari but hip throws will be harder since you will be harder to get under.
Its all about experience, the more judo you do better you get at anticipating attacks and understanding your own weaknesses. So in closing don't worry about not getting thrown, spend your time thinking about how your going to throw your opponent. -

I've been doing judo for about a year, maybe year and a half... I'm definitely looking for the throw, that goes without saying.
I ask this because I am competing in sambo in about 2 weeks, and I'm just developing anti-throw strategies. It's different, of course, from judo to sambo, but I expect my opponents to be insanely good at throwing.

Hey, I'm a wrestling-based grappler, but all my best work is from the clinch, so I'll add some stuff that might help.
1. Have lower hips than your opponent. Most hip tosses require they get under your hips; knowing this, it's far easier to defend against it than it is for them to get under you.
2. Alligator arms. Be a T-rex until YOU are ready to try something. Just rough them up with a collar tie for a bit and they'l try to force something. Take advantage then.
3. Pummel. Only way they pull a throw with double overhooks is if they are a lot better than you, or you gas out. You can prepare for one of those scenarios. -

Yes, absolutely. My issue with pummeling is that i don't want to even get into that position, because these guys will paste me with throws. The other stuff is solid and I agree wholeheartedly. Thank you.
Jnp and I did some controlled sparring tonight, and we worked out some good stuff. I definitely have some strong go-to's now.
