    Takedown Defense Sucks Need Help

    Hey guys, while sparring the other day i realized that anyone with halfway decent takedowns can take me down fairly easily. I can stop judo style takedowns from the clinch pretty decent, but wrestlers exploit me pretty bad. any help?

    MMA and no-gi grappling, with competition style intensity. everyone at the gym is bigger than me so they tend to overpower me easily with double and single legs. my sprawl seems kinda weak so it might be improper technique

    Sounds like you already know the answer. Work on your sprawls and talk to your coach about hot to negate their power when they shoot on you.

    Focus on controlling their head when you sprawl. I'm also a fan of the sprawl to the switch.

    Crossface., lower your stance if you find you might be standing straight up and giving them your hips.

    When all else fails, go down and get'em. If you can at least get the intitial sprawl, you should be able to pummel double underhooks and drag them up to your level.

    sprawl and stuff there head into the mat, sprawl and cross face, or sprawl into a head lock. Note that all of these things start with a sprawl, that is because the sprawl is the most important part. If your having issue with your sprawl drill it.

    Everything about the sprawl is all in the hips and the hands and head control. You should be trying to literally push him back with your hips. Also, you need to be working for underhooks at the same time, or a headlock, or if neither of those work, a cross face.
