Aside from the stiff-arming, we train using most of the exercises/methods you describe.

So, if what I get from your description matches what you do, then no, you are not alone.

What you are though, is still drilling. Drills can be good, and are usually fun, but it is not the same nor as useful as alive training.

As such, people who train in alive manner will still criticise its usefulness in combat

Yet another thread that supports Aikido sucks and that its practitioners are mainly delusional.

I don't think it's fair to say it sucks. Can't we just say it's "troubled"?

It's kind of going through it's emo phase, but there is every chance it will grow up to be a functional member if society. It just might not end up working in the same field it studied at college.

I admit I didn't know what the term alive meant specifically either so appologies for that too.

The thing that does nibble a bit tho is the video evidence part, I understand why people ask for it tho. Alas I do not have any. And I can quite clearly understand why people bash Aikido, some of the vids on youtube make me cringe a bit too. I guess I was just trying to say that its not all bad and could be used in self defense, maybe I couldn't use it against a trained MMA'er but I am sure some could but that wasn't the question.

My initial reason for posting at all was to ask if any other Aikido dojo's train like we do or if it was rare?

I suggest you write that answer in pencil rather than pen

i would suggest against aikido for anyone new to martial arts. you need something direct and fast paced like kickboxing or kenpo. not that you should beleive anyone who says its junk. ive made use of it more then a few times in bad places. felt like i was wasting my time for years though so it Can be more trouble then its worth.
