    Let me rephrase, is it a legal choke for nogi competition?

    That's a much tougher question. Depending on your age and division and the tournament you are in it may not be. Many organizations ban "trachea" chokes and will bust you for anything that even LOOKS like a trachea choke, whether it actually hits the trachea or not. Kids divisions will usually ban things like this, and novice divisions are likely to do so as well.
    One problem with this choke in competition is that it's easy for you to accidentally or "accidentally" turn it into a nasty trachea choke if your opponent tries to pull away or you slip or something so many places might ban it for that reason. Keeping that in mind, you should check the rules of whatever organization your thinking of competing under in order to be 100% sure.

    I'm going to ask my nogi instructor this weekend. IBJJF rules seem to be fairly strict when it comes to applying chokes that could possibly be trachea chokes. The choke is slick though. I will be trying this choke in training. ;-) Thanks for sharing.
