Nah, I use that defense all the time if a person can't secure the position the choke is nearly moot.

To all of the above:

I'm not really a newaza specialist and especially not no gi, never enjoyed no gi as much as gi. I always though neck defence was key and that trying to peel away the foot control on the hips was less than ideal practice, maybe I'm wrong.

I was also concerned by some of the scramble exchanges where Tate looked very close to getting fight ending positions, but Ronda either hulked out of it or did something I don't understand.

Maybe it was because I downloaded the fight and so I could see the timer ticking down until the end of the video and that made me worried that Ronda would get subbed. If I'd watched it on TV I might not have been put so on edge by the various poor positions Ronda ended up in.

It's a risk-reward thing, if you have the bottom arm trapped, as IIRC Rousey did, you can get away with it. It's a lot easier to defend than in the gi (because no bow-and-arrow) and easier again with MMA gloves on.

I'm confused. What exactly am I "wrong" about? Am I "wrong" because Tate lost and/or that she lost to an armbar? Am I "wrong" because Rousey pulled off her game of throw and submit? I stated earlier how I desired to see Rousey win that exact way.

I've been following Ronda since before this fight was even announced and following this particular fight since the beginning. One part of me wants to see Rowdy execute a beautiful throw straight into a submission.

Will that happen, not sure? Rousey is so explosive and aggressive and executes her Judo perfectly for the cage (and in all her nogi comps) its difficult to see how it could end any differently than all her other fights.

In a no gi situation it is very difficult to finish the RNC against a skilled grappler if you haven't set your hooks.

Considering Rousey had control of one of Tate's arms (if I recall correctly), preventing Tate from establishing her primary hook with the other hand was an excellent choice under that set of variables. In my limited experience, this advice would definitely not apply in the absence of the hand control Rousey demonstrated.

I'd be interested if Omega or anyone who has competed in the ring thinks differently.
