Why would you stand and trade with a guy who's head looks like a cross between and ? What an idiot.

I was suprised to see on Fightmetric that Tim Schla-Boetsch actually outfought Okami in the first round - I'd have to rewatch the fight, but I don't seem to remember it being that way.

Can't wait to see who Hunt takes on next - he takes on anyone other than Mir or Nog, I reckon he'll have an excellent chance.

Really didn't think Benson won that fight. Frankie landed more strikes, and scored some good takedowns.

Also what kind of a shitty turn around for Okami. Looking so improved, then having that happen.

As for the throws, they are beautiful, but he only had two and Shields had as many takedowns scored. The throws' amplitude didn't affect the fight in any way, so they can't count too much more than a TD. On top of all that, Shields did get Aki's back in the third. Yoshi had some kickass D and some awesome throws, but aside from that he wasn't actively doing much. D and 2 throws can't win you the fight when you're outstruck in every round, even if it's shitty striking on both ends.

    Here's the fightmetric.

He threw him twice in the first, once I. the second and hit with more intent in the third.

Defense doesn't win you fights. The throws were nice, but it didn't look like he was even trying to do anything with them strategically, so they shouldn't count for much more than, say, a couple solid body shots. And Shields just kept landing a whole lot more strikes than Akiyama... if Akiyama had won, it would have been a robbery IMO.

Overall, a good night of fights. Bummer for Joe Lauzon, and bummer for Frankie Edgar... I was happy to see Tim Boetsch come through, though. That was a performance appropriate for his nickname!
There are no wrong threats, only wrong answers. (Strategy game truism)

felt so bad for Frankie. he is my new hero. brought it every step of the way against a clearly larger opponent, even after getting blasted hard.

Kongo's grappling skills? Kongo's GRAPPLING skills? We are talking about the guy who got outwrestled by....Heath Herring. Let that percolate in your cerebral cortex for a second.
As for trading with Mark Hunt, Melvin Manhoef managed to put him down with punches, for Kongo to think he could do the same isn't the height of insanity some of you are making it out to be.

    And just for the record:
    Jesus > Jersey Shore.
    War Bendo.

Firstly, Kongo has shown to have a suspect chin and isn't half the striker Manhoef is. He wasn't even landing good leg kicks or keeping him at range. If you're gonna fight a guy who hits like a truck and has a chin like the trailer it pulls, you better be on your fucking bicycle.

Secondly, Frankie hates Jersey Shore, has expressly said so on record, and to praise jesus after kicking someone's ass is... well I can't decide whether it's more retarded than ironic or the other way around.

I swear to ****, if one more athlete gets the adjective "humble" ascribed to them because they think god intervenes on their personal fucking sporting endeavors I'm gonna kick a dictionary through the face of the next ESPN anchor I see.

Yeah but Shields took him down twice and got his back in the third.

**** my life, I can't believe I'm defending a Shields decision. Never mind.

I think the turning point of this card for me was the Shields snoozer. Props to everybody who fights, but he is not my favorite either!

Bummed for J-Lau. It happens, although a little too quick this time dammit.

All those takedowns didnt get it for the champ?? I thought the striking was close but the damage was one-sided, I am torn but cant argue too much. Bendo did some damage, and the way the bell rang in the fifth didnt help Frankie either.
