On topic: It's just complete and utter bullshit and most vegans really try to put others down. I had a colleague at work who was a vegan. He always kept telling us that we were bad people and how his ways were the only acceptable. Also when we had company meetings he demanded we got vegan food (which meant one of us had to drive one hour to a bakery which had vegan stuff and then back).
I think it's stupid, that's about it.
I've experienced this as well. I have two women working for me who are veg????s. I think one is a vegetarian and one is a vegan but I can't remember which is which.
They're both weirdo extremists about the whole thing. One carts around fucking green shakes all day that look like the slime they had on You Can't Do That on Television when I was a kid. She goes away to "health retreats" and is some kind of certified card carrying vegetable nazi. She loves to educate others on how healthy her lifestyle is. She also turned to homeopathic medicine when she was diagnosed with skin cancer, so I probably won't have to put up with her bullshit much longer.
The other one always complains loudly about how gross meat is. Ironically, her ass is about three axe handles wide so she's either a recent convert or honey buns don't violate her strict dietary code.
I don't cater to their shitass beliefs when we all go out to lunch or dinner. Unless it's their anniversary or something I go to a regular restaurant and they can eat salad or get fucked. I usually order a big fat ribeye and eat that bad boy like it's my last meal.

There are some really nice Scientologists too; that doesn't make having your thetan levels regularly audited a rational lifestyle choice.
I started out writing this thread in response to the apparent malnutrition that inspired the PETA video. It just spiraled out from there, as it always tends to do with me; from a small issue into the bigger picture.
Promoting Veganism as a lifestyle is detrimental to society. Sure, there are plenty of things wrong with factory farms, and our food chain in general is absolutely fucked (see: Monsanto). But the fundamental concepts behind Veganism, especially compared to Vegetarianism, are deserving of all the scorn they get; from rednecks cracking jokes at Waffle House about malnourished-looking hipster twinks, to discussion threads on Combat Sports websites.
Again, Vegans are just Fundamentalist Vegetarians. And Fundamentalist Anythings are fundamentally retarded.

Holier than thou people seldom are.
This is a pervasive trend among them, regardless of what belief set they're trying to emotionally blackmail you into joining.

I imagine that's because people who aren't entirely convinced of the merits of their beliefs, find validation when more people subscribe to them.
Also, the whole memes = mind virus thing; living to spread themselves and all.

I also think that vegans that spend time arguing over technicalities in digestion, the shape of our teeth, certain societies or animals having vegan friendly diets etc etc... lose sight of the fact that it ends up being a personal choice to ease your own moral dilemmas. Being part of the 1st world, if you care to notice, comes with some questionable practices.
But, by all means, make fun of PETA, hippies, 40 year old Buddhist liberals . I do.
You sound entirely too reasonable and are making it hard for me to work up a full-on mad.

I would argue that being a locovore does more to help the planet than being a vegan.
Vegan: I love this gluten free gruel from Japan!
Locovore: I'm enjoying a steak and broccoli from local area farms.
Locovores help prevent the screwed up food chain from existing.

Yeah. Personally I prefer to eat Paleo, I'm just not a smug **** about it or flip out when a piece of bread comes within five feet of my plate. If a baked good happens to find its way into my mouth, oh well.
Watching Food Inc. is a good start for people who aren't educated on the problems with our food chain.

I've read up on the news surrounding that PETA spot and when I read what the PETA people say about how it's "tongue-in-cheek" and "playful", I really need to puke. That's not funny, not one bit. She can hardly walk, not because her idiot boyfriend is such a "tantric pornstar" but because she is bruised and beaten up. PETA care more about the animals than they care about the human race. Good for them, they should probably kill themselves.
Violence and rape scenarios are not cool, so no one will turn vegan from seeing a beaten woman. If they turn vegan from this, it shows they are sick fucks.
Sorry about my language, I will stop before I work a temper. This makes me sick...

As for the video - I wouldn't go vegan to impress Miss Skinnybutt, but I'd probably be willing to pretend for a week or two.

Best ever vegan comeback (I was sitting in a restaurant with the ONLY vegan I ever met, and a bunch of friends who were trying to enjoy some BBQ, the vegan ordered a salad)
*Vegan rants for 15 minutes about the healthiness, ethical and moral superiority*
Vegan: "Do you guys do realise that you're eating a dead animal, something that was alive before it was slaughtered for your greed AND BLOODLUST!"
My friend, "Andy": "Do you realise that you are eating a dead plant? But hey, I realise that unlike the animal which was slaughtered, the plant was picked from the ground and that that doesn't sound nearly as horrible."
