I see. I thought you meant there was a stance that had a plan on how to eat low kicks with some sort of defense, not choke to death on them.

Looks more like a training stance than a fighting stance.

I knew a progressive CLF sifu who trained his right cross as his low kick defense- thrown as soon as he could tell a low kick was coming in. Made me very wary of kicking his legs.

How did those sparring matches generally work out?

I try to get close and they loose their stamina maintaining their distance (we usually sparr in a large basketball field)

I place a few lowkicks they throw some punches and kicks from afar I block them, They can usually get a few fast punch to the face against me
But most of the time is jumping around me while I try to get close

Here you can see some dude with less than a year of Kyokushin vs a Uechi Ryu practicioner with more thant 7 years of Uechi (the one in the gi)
The Uechi practicioner is EXTREMELY agressive compared to most of the point sparrers I know and have sparred against me

Yeah but what do you expect from someone with almost a decade of experience vs. a complete novice? The poor son of a bitch is barely putting anything out there, and his only defense is "back up in a straight line".

What MA did you finally settle on? I know you were shopping around a little while ago, just curious. Kyokushin? MT?

Look, a lot of this discussion on "do this when this is done in this style" is just one of the many ways to deal with problems in any kickboxing style. Its not 'that style' that does this. Lower stance to deflect/eat leg kick while coming in for a counter: pretty standard defense, almost as standard as the leg check. Kickboxers move in and out of that low stance in punches and sometimes kicks.
