    Hell yeah! Hell no!

    Feel the Beethoven?!

    Oh hai,

    So, this question is two-fold:

    1. The ****. I am getting old, ain't I?

    2. What's your attitude to working out to slow (non-epic), and quiet classical music and jazz?

In the movie "Warrior", there's this rather weird moment, when people learn patience through listening to the anthem of the European Union, and even Henry Rollins says in "The Iron" that he mostly works out to ballads.

I would be interested in what other people work out to.

Quiet music, while sweaty men grunt and lift stuff?
    Fighting, "like chess"?

    I AM ON FIRE, MAN!!!

Sometimes we roll to Hip Hop. Not my kind of thing, really (white kids going ghetto) but to each his own. It can make the flow of rolling better when you are not spazzing and know what you are doing (i.e. not a complete beginner).

I thought Ode to Joy pretty cool in Warrior.

    Just my 0.02 Euros...

Our club never practices to music, except for some more agressive moments whe, doing hard sparring. Amon Amarth, CoB and Mayan come to mind. Agressive but melodic metal.

When working out at the gym my Ipod is filled with my usual eclectic mix of metal, pop, classical and electronica... and I find that I go beserk each time Bach's Tocata and Fuge in Dm comes around. Good for ropeskipping, that one.

Ode to Joy was brilliantly used in Warrior, so true.

Well, we have a Capoeira class before BJJ starts and they of course make their own music (kids' Capoeira is music from CD). As I said: I never train to music, not even when running or something.

It's just that some of the Blues and up put on the music and who am I to tell them to stop?

Tend only to listen to music when I'm running rather than the gym. Currently listening to Rammstein, I tend to find I run a lot faster listening to that rather than classical.

Only downside is that you feel the urge to pull on some jackboots and invade Poland....

I am a metalcore fan and I feel like aggressive music makes me exhaust myself too quickly. Because I am also a hip hop DJ, I like the music but when rolling it tends to annoy me when some kids with no "ghetto" upbringing listen to music about shooting someone on the corner in a drive-by. But that's just me :D

The thing is, I am huge metalhead.

However, listening to too much of it, especially when I confront my weaknesses ( - which is what training should be about! HARDEN THE **** UP, EVERYBODY! - ) puts me in places too dark.

Now, when I read and heard these comments on classical music, I asked myself:

Just how much Beethoven is in Wanderlei Silva?!

I typically listen to whatever the gym is playing. At one, they only play music during open mat, and it's usually just someone's music on their phone or an Ipod. Sometimes it's metal, sometimes just a mix of modern stuff.

At another place I sometimes go to they typically play hard style metal, of which I'm not a huge fan. One day a few weeks ago and they were playing American Folk music, like Hank Williams and Woody Guthrie. I enjoyed that quite a bit.

Point is, I guess I don't care what the music is as long as it's not country, polka or opera music.
Shut the hell up and train.
