I love my A1 style handguards

Look how beautiful my AR is, with the A1 style handguards. It's a Del Ton A2 style, built from a kit with the help of a friend of mine. I went on the internet and ordered the A1 handguards and pistol grip and stock seperately. It wasn't cheap, even, to get them.
Those handguards have got elegant, gently sloping lines. The design combines a cubist triangle with moulded corners, somehow both alien and sensual, so that it's almost an elegant, under-stated post cubist functional work of art.

It reminds you a bit of Darth Vader's helmet...just a hint of the Star Wars cultural aethsetic.

I feel as though the handguards represent the cultural artistry of the late 60s and 70s, which has been lost as our degraded society has gone the way of Britney Spears and shitty, cynical remakes of movies from decades ago.

Whenever I train with that rifle, I experience history, thanks to my incorporating those vintage handguards into my weapon system.

Someday, I'll have to get optics, rails, lights, and lasers, but first, I feel like I must master and understand the original system in order to truly appreciate and benefit from the modern revisions.

Old school. That's what I carried when I first went in the AF. I later joined the Air National Guard and was surprised to see a few AR15s in the inventory with green hanguards, pistol grips and butt stocks. I was working in the firearms industry at the time so I took down the SNs and gave the Colt historian a call. He told me that the AF adopted the AR15 first and that the green ones were the test rifles sent to the AF. The AF liked the rifles but requested they be made in black instead. During our activation after 9/11 we received "new to you" A2s from a USMC unit (excellent condition, thanks DevilDogs) and had to destroy the old ones. Its a shame some of those green stocks couldn't be saved and given to the guys who carried them for twenty years to put on their own ARs. Oh well, rules are rules after all.

It is a laser etching. Del Ton gives you a free custom laser etching when you get a rifle kit.

While I appreciate the irony, it does detract a bit from the classic look of the rifle, imo. :D

The "system" is for all practical intents exactly the same...a direct gas impingement system. All you are looking at is furniture. If you want to master something "old school" just master iron sights...on any version of AR.
