Well I suppose it depends how you look at it. I was thinking more along the lines of badasses like Chuck Norris in "Walker...", Tony Ja in "Ong Bok", or Shaq in "Steel"!

edit: Not the Dr. Kevorkian types.

Noted. and it has been established that I am naive. Specifically why I came onto this site. Obviously I don't have any experience, but that's why I came to a site where all people do is disbanding ideas and martial philosophies. (I'm glad that I found how little I know about anatomy. I'd rather be a complacent dunce on the internet than make the same mistake in real life.)

So judo, that is grappling correct?

Also, whoever named the thread, that was clever. :)

Some good advice in this thread. Most of y'alls posts' make me proud, except that Kagan guy.

    He's bad. Real bad.
Shut the hell up and train.

While I'm not sure what I can trust with all of the marketing schemes around, I can at least trust this: Learn MMA and train hard. All of you have told me that this is what I should do. Instead of focusing on those premises that I started with now I'm focusing on:

    1.)stance
    2.) keeping my hands up
    3.)always moving.
4.) don't look in the eyes of your opponent. (I tried sparring today, I got destroyed, but I started doing better when I looked at his chest. The torso torque told me which side he was going to hit.
    5.)learn each technique.

As per your collective suggestions, I've started sprint training.

Am I on the right track now or is ther more that you guys want me to know?

You're doing fine. I can tell you tend to over analyze things, or as my buddy says "Paralysis via over analysis".

Listen to your coaches, trainers. Try not to think so much in this area. Your body needs to learn how to fight, and your mind can hinder you in this department if you're constantly trying to scrutinize everything.
Shut the hell up and train.

Judo is grappling, though throws are better in a sd situation than pulling guard and working your ground game, IMHO. You don't want to get stomped in the head whole you're sweeping a dude from guard.

Throws hurt badly and a good throw will end a fight.

The best defence is to stay out of trouble.

Good to know. Thanks for the help guys. I really appreciate it.

I've noticed that I do tend to overthink things. Matt said the same thing.
