Getting into Judo (UK Residents)

JNP I wasn't sure where to post this as its about starting Judo, but if I post it in the JMA no one will read it and its aimed at people who don't do Judo so this was the best place I could think of.

If you've ever wanted to get into Judo, but have been concerned about being thrown in at the deep end and being the only noob on the mat, well you're in luck.

The BJA is continuing its quest to become less useless and increase participation in Judo by running a series of national Adult Beginner courses.

These courses run for 10 weeks with 1 session a week.

You pay £60 for the course, for which you get:

10 lessons
British Judo adult licence
A judo suit
Your first grading.

That's a package worth £110 massively discounted down to only £60, so its a huge bargain.

Not only is it a great deal, but its also a fantastic environment to learn Judo in, because it will be just you and other adult beginners.

No vicious contest dan grades, whipper snapper kids or other dangers and annoyances to spoil you day.

So by now you should be super exicted and wanting to know where you can start.

I'd probably have signed up but I missed the start by a couple of weeks. Is it a standardised course nationwide?

You can always just go along and start Judo anytime. This course is just to act as an encouragement.

Its not a standardised course, as far as I'm aware, the content and structure is left up to individual coaches.

They're rotating it around the country and various clubs. The first incarnation had a different set of clubs involved. Although admittedly no clubs from the North East.

Maybe your club could get in contact with the BJA and volunteer to be part of the next round.

I'm already with the BJA so am paid up and suited up but want to just add how much of a bargain £60 is. If anyone is thinking of getting started and has one of the above clubs near them DO IT, it's a steal.

Yes, they do (I know the page and have already found a club I will be trying next week). I was talking about the programme you guys have in the UK.

Re-booting this, because the next round of Adult Beginner courses are coming up.

As before there's a free taster session followed by a £60 beginner course. For your £60 you get 10 weeks of lessons, a suit, a licence and your first grading.
