We have a few of these at the armory. The heavy barreled one is a damn brick. I feel sorry for whoever had to hump that thing every day.

Phrost, was the heavy barreled M14 in your armory also glass bedded? Glass bedding also adds weight to the rifle. My rifle is not light and I get a bit of a work out when I hunt via stalking.

The FN SCAR was determined by SOCOM to be unacceptable due to the fragility of the stock. I'd be curious to see what, if anything, FN has done to remedy that situation."No. Listen to me because I know what I'm talking about here." -- Hannibal

I guess that's one advantage of a walnut stock on an M14, aside from aesthetics (wood looks good), it can take/dish out a beating.

Because Everything is Better with Videos
Some people like this guy's videos, other find him annoying. Me, I like 'em.

M14 in standard configuration - 9.2lbs unloaded (fully loaded 20rd magazine = 1.5lbs)
M14 EBR - unloaded about 12lbs w/o scope base, rings, scope and bipod; just under 15lbs with scope mount, rings, scope and bipod.
My match tuned M14 with medium weight barrel and glass bedding - 11.8lbs unloaded.
