I was wondering if you were going to move this to MABS. I did a quick check, he is registered with USA Wrestling Ohio as the Sombo Director for the state.

Three things:
1. You know this is important if it pulls me from the shadows....
2. Do you notice the korean patch on the sleeve?
3. Last I checked, like judo, you have to be 13 to do joint locks on one another. BIG no no to have kids doing submissions in Judo or Sambo, unless there was a change.
Smells to me....."Out of every hundred men, ten shouldn't even be there, eighty are just targets, nine are the real fighters, and we are lucky to have them, for they make the battle. Ah, but the one, one is a warrior, and he will bring the others back." -- Hericletus, circa 500 BC -
BJJ might make you a better ground fighter, but Judo will make you a better dancer.

Yeah the video is self evidently terrible, so this little nitpick might seem petty... but isn't the sport SAMBO ruleset grappling only, i.e. analogous to Judo or BJJ?
Why is the kid wearing MMA gloves? Why in their "full mount" position, are they clearly attempting to posture up for strikes, as opposed to maintaining chest contact for superior control/pinning?
And why the hell are they calling a scarf hold side control?Last edited by Lu Tze; 1/07/2012 12:35pm at .

USA Wrestling is the NGB for Amateur Wrestling, and FILA is the supervising authority (WGB); For Judo the NGB is USA Judo under the IJF; For Sambo the NGB is the American Amateur Sport Sambo Federation, and the supervising authority is the Federation International Amateur de Sambo (FIAS).
Not only does USA Wrestling have nothing to do with the governance of Sambo in this country, but it seems that Ohio is the only state that has the position of "Sombo Director" on the USA Wrestling staff. Now darkness comes; you don't know if the whales are coming. - Royce Gracie
