The dojang is pretty nice from what I've seen to compare it to. However, there is a disproportionate amount of kids to adults (though there are very few BBs, and none of them are kids)

The kid thing is my biggest gripe with the school since when we spar I'm usually stuck with someone much less athletic than me, or I'm stuck with someone who greatly outsizes me.
I asked about why there weren't more adults in the class, and it seems the adults stopped coming when they increased their prices. Apparently they used to charge around $80/month and decided that since they were better than the nearby ATA school they should charge more. :itsnotokay:

One other thing... They pay on a contract basis, while you can pay on a class-by-class basis it's $25 a class, so I'm in a 2 yr contract. (That's the longest one they have)
2 years? $160? What is with you Texas people?

Okay.... I guess that's your way of saying he should've looked for a cheaper striking art or at the very least another school at a better rate? I hate to make assumptions but Denton isn't a major metropolis in Texas so I'm guessing he had no choice but to pay those rates.

I've been to Denton, I would've traveled. That's the third school I heard of that does two year contracts.

So I just took my first class at Optimist Judo, nice people and I like Judo!
FWIW I got complemented on my ground work and falling techniques, so I feel more confident in the quality of at least that part of my HKD training.
(BJJ hasn't called me back, showed up in person but the trainers were elsewhere.)

I used to pay $25 a month. I'm pretty sure my instructor was just taking pity on a broke young soul.

There is a 2 hour class 4 nights a week. Half workout and half fighting. Cost is one US dollar. I do full contact glove fighting but they also offer open hand (kung fu) and Aikido which I dabble in. This is in Tennessee.

I do one private lesson per week for 20$. This also gets me access to the gym to train on my own time.

if you went to everything offered you would spend 96 dollars for 4 hours private and 32 hours of class time. Im happy.
