It has been just under two months since you were promoted to a yellow belt. I'm curious if this is standard progression in time for your martial art and schoo?

I agree with what Snake was asking. I'm really curious myself whenever I learn a new technique, to understand how it works in the 'big picture.'

My only experience (which is still very limited as I am only yellow belt) in Tae Kwon Do is Jhoon Rhee Tae Kwon Do. They have two types of forms Traditional (forms in traditional stances most likely derived from Karate forms) & Modern form (new forms don't know if they were created by Jhoon Rhee himself or by other instructors) & no explanation other than the above mentioned.
Even in Kyokushin you wouldn't get much beyond the above plus some explanation of the purpose of the moves but no complete explanation for them. I even heard that in Japan in some Dojos they rarely do any Kata other than memorizing prior to grading. -

Hi
when I did my first grading it was in december 2010 and then was when I got double promoted straight to yellow belt, at my club if you train twice a week you are eligble to grade every 3 months so it has defintiely been more than two months since my last grading because I did the last grading last week (April 2nd).
there is nothing wrong with grading every 3 months if you put the training and effort in and the patterns we learn are very important because they would help you in a real life situation.Last edited by LINZ1958; 4/10/2011 5:32am at .

No, there is nothing wrong provided you look, move and fight like a lower-midlevel member of that rank. Just because you "know your pattern" or put in your time and your checks cleared doesn't mean that you earned that ranking.
No, they don't.the patterns we learn are very important because they would help you in a real life situation. -

Just saw this post.
Based on levels, the explanations started as simply as "learning to present your strikes" to "learning how to hit a stance and be in proper alignment" moving to "learning how to flow from stance to stance and be in proper alignment" to "learning how flow from fight from one direction and flowing to another direction, while still being on balance and in alignment"
There was always *some* answer that seemed somewhat plausible.
