    LEO Defensive Tactics Training Mats

I have been tasked to come up with a suggestion/requisition for new mats for my department. Our current mats are...well... embarrassing to say the least. The department bosses have taken my advice and decided that we are not gymnasts and this could be the reason why we have had THREE recruits with torn ACLs in the past eight months.

They have given me a $1500 budget and I have around 900 square foot to work with. I was thinking about 300 square foot of mat space (hell and gone more than what we have).

I have almost made up my mind on 1 1/2" Zebra grappling mats. Is there any suggestions? Does anyone have any better ones? Please spare me the conversation of practicing on concrete, pavement or grass for realism. Thanks, in advance.

Puzzle mats will results with a lot of broken toes if they train without shoes. That sure is a shitty budget for mats especially if they want to prevent any more knee injuries but try Dollamur roll out mats at http://dollamur.com/

Yes, avoid jigsaw/puzzle mats like the plague.

If you need convincing, just copy/paste "jigsaw mats toe injury" (without quotes) into google images.

Swain flex roll matts is what I have, and they are awesome! Throw some mat tape into the mix and no broken toes, and nice padding for just about anything you will do. They are durable so you can wear boots if you need to.
