    Hell yeah! Hell no!

Learning to use a staff to beat people at pool.

    just kidding

but how would you guys rate going to a gym and learning Iaido or Kobudo.

it's not that practical but seems like a lot of fun.

dont make misleading thread titles, its fucking annoying.

and what a dumb question. thats like asking "how would you rate learning to do salsa" well it depends on whether you want to learn how to dance or not. do you want to learn how to play with swords? then yeah, go for it. if not, dont.

I've never thought of Iaido or kobudo as "fun" activities. If you want fun, go do square dancing.

Fun is subjective, i think getting tattooed is fun, you may not, you may think that learning weapon arts are fun, I do not.

I would give it a 4 out of 10, maybe a 5 if I get to hit people with the weapons.

It should be noted that a 1 is equal to a trip to the dentist while a 10 is equal to ones favorite activity.

Our weapons program isn't as fun as the other systems because.....well I think it's because it takes too long to properly use it without hurting yourself. I've got a few weapons anecdotes from those classes. Most of them come assumptive stupidity.

Please, do share some of those anecdotes.

OP: I'd rate going to a gym / dojo / training group to learn a weapon as better than any other way of learning a weapon. "Serious injuries are the result of amateurist martial arts" holds especially true when you add in a "force multiplier" like a stick or a blade. Even a seemingly dull blade, like an iaito, can cause serious harm to the user without proper care.
You should also check out the instructor knows what they're doing before starting weapon training with them.

Can we turn this into a story time thread with Omega?

I'll start with a little one:
Three of us standing around doing single stick armarras / solo striking patterns before escrima. I turned my head to say something to one of the guys without adjusting my swing and gave myself a black eye.
