(VIDEO) Marcelo Garcia “Step into my House” BJJ HL

    Awesome new highlight of Marcelo.
Not from his fights but from his training in his NY academy.

Good highlight, interesting how he uses his own head in combination with the wrist crawl to get under the chin.

    Ok jnp,

After watching this video and seeing some of his other youtube vids a couple of things are apparent:

    1. Marcelo is excellent at getting submissions in transition; particularly his elbow up guillotine and north south choke. He is always moving and transitioning just to get these submissions.
    2. His back attack game is not as complex as I thought, he really seems to like the crucifix position and even hits an armbar from here. Essentially it is all about the harness grip for control then getting the hooks or crucifix position.
    3. His game is really based around the RNC, guillotine and north south choke.

All of these points are pretty much the opposite of my game, as I really like armbars and to use the kimura control position a lot from the top. After watching this highlight it is clear that I really need to focus more on chokes and improve my back game particularly in terms of finishing the RNC.

What is also interesting is his preference for certain moves on one side only, however I feel like this would hurt my own development is only really a good philosophy for high level grapplers.
