    Carla Pronio Molinaro investigation

Carla Pronio Molinaro runs a Goju ryu dojo in Shenandoah, Pennsylvania. She apparently has trained with Ron Martin, Chuck Merriman, and Morio Higaonna-sensei. She also originally taught Japanese Goju ryu, but now teaches Okinawan Goju. I've already discussed the McDojo like qualities of her dojo in previous threads (I'll provide links). What I'd like to know if anyone can either provide some spotlight on her or back her up on this, because she seems quite shady to me. Thanks.

This thread summarizes the BS that's in the dojo.

I'm unsure of how reputable a federation the IKKF is however, she is on the list so the instructor rank at least seems to be legit.

Not sure on her claims regarding who she trained with, there isn't much else on google.

EDIT: Do you have the name of the dojo she runs?

Why the **** is this in MABS?? You're on a fishing expedition, and you have no idea if there's even one fish in the lake.

I was going to post it in the Japanese MA forum, but it seemed kinda pointless and unnecessary.

OK, I'll take the bait. Perhaps some factual info will benefit prospective students researching Pronio's martial arts school.

I trained with Carla Pronio from 1980 to 1982 at Ron Martin's goju-ryu karate school in Shenandoah, PA. The dojo was on the top floor of the VFW building - it was hot as an oven up there. We sweated buckets in those heavyweight Tokaido gis. This was a great dojo; Ron Martin was a stickler for technique, and the sparring was tough and intense. Ron Martin himself was a very sucessful tournament fighter in the early 1970's, and he was one of the early American full contact fighters (back when they wore the original Jhoon Rhee dipped foam pads for full contact). I seem to recall that he fought the likes of Mike Bell, Joe Corley, and Byong Yu in full contact competition. He taught the Japanese (Yamaguchi) flavor of goju ryu, as originally brought to the United States by Peter Urban and subsequently taught by Chuck Merriman. Martin's students, including Pronio and me, competed in the eastern Pennsylvania tournament circuit. Pronio, in particular, was a very good tournament competitor in forms and point sparring during the years I was there.

Pronio was a brown belt when I started in 1980. She was promoted to black belt by Ron Martin in 1981 or early 1982 - I was at the promotion ceremony. She and Bob Cook (Ron Martin's senior black belt at the time) broke away from Martin in the summer of 1982 and formed their own school at the current Mumei location on west Center St. in Shenandoah. I have not seen or been in contact with Pronio since then, so I can't comment on the legitimacy of her subsequent training and rank promotions.

I can personally verify that Carla Pronio's goju-ryu black belt under Ron Martin is 100 percent legitimate.
