    Hell yeah! Hell no!

A guard GI ADVANCED BASICS concept for EVERYONE!

This video shows a guard concept that is what I consider "advanced basics". It is simple enough for everyone to practice, and effective enough for everyone at all levels to hit during their live rolling and competitions. The main premise is using hip control, pressure, and timing to off balance your opponent from the guard and set up attacks.

Thank you once again for watching,

    Jason Scully

Nice an simple setup for the xande style sweep and triangle. I liked that you focused on the foot on the opponents hip and keeping your hip up to eliminate space.

I'm curious as to during the sweep what you're doing with your left leg?

This is definitely something that I will work on this next week. I've been trying to work on basic positions and attacks like this because I get too easily enamored by flashy stuff.

When you ask about my left leg, in what situation are you talking about?

I also wondered about the left leg. You don't seem to use it as a pendulum, the way I would expect it to be done.

This is because I am relying on my opponent's reaction for this one because I am off balancing them the other direction...with the "original" pendulum sweep, there isn't much initial off balancing and that is where the swinging of the leg comes in.

Even the littlest bit of reaction from your opponent after you off balance them will help your sweep attempt tremendously

During the sweep. Do you stomp Xande sweep style, use it to sweep your opponents leg out from under them, etc? Often times many people counter by posturing and posting on that leg.

Also Merry Christmas, deck the halls with lots of fail. Fa la la, la la la la.

No I do not remove my foot from the hip as I do not see it as necessary for when I am attacking for the sweep.

I hit this sweep tonight - it was awesome to have something that the guys in class aren't familiar with. Thanks for the vid!
