    Hell yeah! Hell no!

Im going to sparr against Sports karate

    Hi to everybody

Well next monday (1/2/12 for english speakers) and (2/1/12 for everybody else) Im going to sparr a cousin of mine who holds a advanced Brown Belt in Uech Ryu and also holds instructor rank and has already taught a few classes. Im a Kyokushin purist only done a (few karate when a kid but only learned kihon so my whole fighting style is pure Kyokushin) and I have trained non-stop for 10 months now with an average of 3 classes per week Without entering in details the dojo I train is of very good quality (national and international title fighters who have taught in small competition-preparing classes and larger regular classes).

My cousin and I are very similar to the point of being confused for brothers or even twins our heights and weigths are nearly identical I have slighty more in both.

The sparring or Kumite is going to be with basic rules (lowkicks, knees, elbows allowed) and the safety rules like no strikes to the bakc of the head no strike against front knee etc
The contact would be Hard-full to the body medium to the face
He is planning on uploading it to youtube so I said "why not post it in Bullshido if he plans to put it on youtube?"

Well you get the idea Im going to relay on Jab combos and lowkicks to his lead leg mostly
Any tips now and critiques to my sparring when I upload the video will be apreciated

    Thank you in advance

So I should take adventage of his linear foot-work move out of the way and keep him at distance with sidekicks? or use them more agressively?

He doesnt throw much combos besides Jab-cross or Oi-gyaku but prefers to rely on a quick jab more than else his other favorite combo is to throw a front kick followed by a second and then maybe a third

His foot-work is very influenced by Shotokan and is for sports karate

Did you see my video of me point sparring? What you want to do is fight in open position and keep to the inside of his front foot. Use the side kick as a counter move shifting your weight to your back foot as you do this. If you hit him, great. If not people tend to settle on their base which allows you to advance.

I found this book to be good in explaining how a lot of sport karateka fight:

Having said that, the uechi ryu that I've seen isn't exactly what I'd call typical sport karate. The uechi guys I've met have used a more square kumite stance than, say, shotokan.

I was wondering about your stance & side kicks in those vids - are they TKD-based?

Yes they have a hard time moving to the sides
My objective is not to "destroy" him but to show that full contact and alive training are an excelent way to be better and fighting also to show that Kyokushin people are not brutes who only rely on brute force how I have been called many times by sport karateka friends
