*walk down alley with friend- First mistake.

*group of people sits on bench, they see my friend coming and shout "a victim"- You stuck around to see what they were talking about. Second mistake.

*they get in our face already having bottles ready in their jackets- You stuck around wondering what those strange bulges were in their jackets. Third mistake.

*at least one of them mentions he knows thai boxing- You stuck around long enough to have a conversation. Fourth mistake.

*we try to back out of situation- You tried to back out instead of running (which you should've done in the first place) not realizing your crisis deescalation skills suck. Fith mistake.

*they isolate him from me, i try to get him by my side- You're still standing around while they manuver themselves into an advantageous position. Sixth mistake.

*they they charge at me swinging bottles at my head- Instead of running, you still stuck around for the finale. Seventh mistake.

Do you see how all of this could be avoided? In a sense, that cut on your head is your fault.

Dflanmod, after a review of OP's posts, and combining with his lack of self preservation/common sense, I agree with your hypothesis.

Believe it or not, most of the confrontations I've had in my life involved multiple people. Never 2 or 3, usually between 5 and 12. (In my teenage years.)

Of all the times a group came at me, or pulled their truck over and started jumping out, not one time did I ever stand around to see what they wanted. I ran like Forrest Gump. Number of stitches I got, ZERO. Number of injuries total, ZERO. Damage to pride or self esteem, NONE.

I have a strategy wherein I don't even have to run.

Step 1. Shut the **** up.

    Step 2. Don't hang out with D-bags.

Step 3. Don't hang out at the same places where D-bags like to hang out.

Step 4. If trouble starts brewing, vacate the area immediately.

    Works for me....
Not been in a real fight since highschool.

No more odd than a guy laughing at a certified trainer giving him advice.
