    Hell yeah! Hell no!

    Taylor Lautner?

So, since I don't follow the agonizing teen schlock that is the Twilight films, I was surprised to find out that Taylor Lautner is supposed to be some kind of big time champion martial artist.

I mean, I knew he still lived here in Santa Clarita with his parents...but a Twilight guy a martial arts champion? So I looked around a bit, not a lot admittedly, but some. I checked out his Wiki entry, his IMDB biography, an article from Karateangels.com and his About.com bio.

It seems that he took up karate when he was six at some place called 'Fabiano's Karate School' and then began training with Michael Chat, the founder of XMA.

Taylor supposedly earned a black belt in karate by the age of eight, but I couldn't discover what style he ranked in. He began training with XMA. At 11 years old it's said that NASKA rated him #1 in the world in their categories of Black Belt Open Forms, Musical Weapons (is that like a violin with spikes?), Traditional Weapons, and Traditional Form. At age 12, he won a Junior World Championship. I did a search for him on the NASKA website, but only found his inclusion on a list of forms and weapons champions that NASKA has produced over the last 25 years; unfortunately, it gives no years as to when this happened.

I checked out some of his vids on YouTube that feature his performances from when he was younger. A lot of weapon forms and demos...definitely heavily XMA influenced.

So...what do you guys think? Legit martial artist or a just well conditioned performer?

musical weapons are like gymnasts' who do floor routine, just not in as good of shape (as the gymnasts). Its not a martial art in any way shape or form, but they do impressive physical stuff. I went to a huge 'mixed' martial arts seminar in Toronto where the XMA guys did their thing. Didn't pay much attention to it though.

I thought I'd be sorry for reading this thread.

XMA is an art, but it's not really that martial. I don't watch TV, so I don't care about Lautner anyway. Isn't he the guy with the eyebrows?

The one with the eyebrows is Robert Pattinson, the one that plays Edward, the gay vampire, and Taylor Lautner is the dark skinned one that played Sharkboy a few years before becoming a gay piss poor excuse for a "werewolf." I know this because 3 girls in a row during high school that I was interested in were all serious Twihards, and one got me interested enough in her to read it. I got 72 pages in, and that was 72 pages more than I should've gotten. :/ I feel like I'm defending myself to avoid being flamed. I'll just go do push ups now... :<

Just be glad you aren't living in the same small city he lives in. If I have to hear about one more Lautner sighting, I'm going to stick steel needles in my ears.
