Look, I am going to go out on a limb and say that if the person has no professional record listed on Boxrec, then there's a fair chance that they never actually fought professionally. A search for that name shows two gentlemen who fought in the 20s, and another guy, but no fighter by that name. (http://boxrec.com/search.php?status=...pell&submit=Go)
On the off chance they just neglected a person with a 16-0 record, then in that case, your state amateur boxing association/commission should have records for this, or at the very least the gym he claims to have trained at (at least, that's how it works in Australia).
EDIT: Just checked that stuff... he doesn't talk enough about his boxing history to even figure what gym he trained at. Curious. -

BoxRec is pretty damn authoritative. It covers the entire gamut of any sanctioned fight, as well as many unsanctioned fights that happen worldwide. If you want to know how exhaustive they are, they cover fights in pretty exotic places, such as Kenya, Reunion, and Indonesia.
The chances of an American fighter having 16 undocumented professional fights without any record on BoxRec is pretty thin. I mean, even Charlie Zelenoff's shitty fight against a journeyman got documented on BoxRec.
This is definitely MABS worthy. -
