     Style: Integral JKD concepts

    Hell yeah! Hell no!

A chunner tells us about JKD concepts.

You guys are funny. this is my first time posting to the forum/site i am what you would call a newbie. i didn't quite know where to jump in, but just felt compelled to at some point. i just wanted to address the idea of Jun Fan/JKD because it appears that many don't know the difference. this may sound radical, but Jun Fan is not JKD. Jan Fan is/was Bruce's personal expression of JKD, and it was constantly changing. JKD itself has no limits. my question is, how can you place a limit on something that's limitless? As far as someone being a JKDer, if you are seeking the truth in combat i.e. being totally honest with yourself, and aligning yourself with reality and not some fantasy way of fighting that may look impressive, then anyone by this definition practices JKD which is Bruce Lee's philosophy of martial arts and of life. the second point i would like to make is that you can't compare JKD to MMA because it is not a Method of fighting, it is a philosophy. Sometimes called a concept. some people don't like the term concept. Now using the principle of absorb what's useful you can take any fighting method and test it in the MMA environment and see how effective it is ( being that MMA is the most effective i.e. realistic testing ground to date) and adjust your method accordingly this is exactly what Burton Richardson has done. this is also what i think Bruce would have done, had he lived. i am not addressing anyone in particular just posting because they were on my back about it.

I used to believe this, too, because, come on man, he's Bruce Lee and all that.

Anyway, seeing how he never competed when he had the chance to, I doubt it now. Also, good job posting in a 2.5 year old thread.

A paragraph is also a concept. A concept that some understand and others don't.

In case you haven't figured it out for yourself yet, this was not the right point.

Use the search function. Read the stickies. Lurk more, post less.

Thanks, Alan, for reenacting the exact behaviors that cause me to train more and post less.

I think it's great when Bruce Lee's thoughts and concepts are re-explained again and again and again, by some enlightened folk who feel compelled to help us find the hidden truths and buried treasure of martial knowledge that are scattered about in multiple and endless volumes of re-interpeted thoughts and concepts books written by enlightened folk who want to re-explain those hidden thoughts and concepts to us again and again and again.

There's a metaphor for religion in there somewhere. I guess we should be grateful for the lack of bow-tie wearing chunners knocking on one's door early Saturday morning, pamphlets and tracts in hand.
