    It's 1993 In Taiwan

From a full-contact tournament in Taiwan with what amounts to san da rules plus (time limited) ground fighting:

    (Yang taiji vs Brazilian jiujitsu)

The good news is that there are also some decent fights, though all the mat work is grim:

    (Boxing vs san da)

Good find Jack. There are some really fun matches in there.

Even in 1993 the UFC knew enough to put a fence around the fight area. Vale Tudo had ropes. It's like they rented "Bloodsport" and then decided make a fight org. Unless forcing your opponent out of bounds is somehow scoreable I can't see continuing this on an open mat.

All goofing aside I like this trend of other countries like China and Taiwan starting their own MMA leagues. I'd like to see something of a resurgence of Cold War rivalry between the US and the Soviets replaced by Chinese. The MMA themed remake of "Rocky 4" alone would be worth it

The polo shirt and Dockers are a nice touch too. Combat casual.

I was all set to laugh and then that first half guard exchange happened, and it was better than any groundfighting i've seen in USian amateur MMA recently

Why would a BJJ guy even enter with those ground fighting rules?

No, these fights are from the last few years. The 1993 in the thread title is a reference to the year in which the first UFC was held, as the hilariously awful first fight video looked like something from that event.

Trickster. Still nice to see some more open rules and competitors with CMAers.
