Wait, did you miss the whole part where it seems like the entire world is now talking about the wealth gap, diminishing opportunities for the middle and lower classes, and unchecked Wall Street/bank/corporate greed? I'm pretty sure that qualifies as both major political and economic discussion, considering it's a complete change of narrative.

I know it's a bit more soft-touch than having a guy with a voice who talks for the whole group and maybe gets elected to some sort of office, but changing the narrative? That **** is pervasive. There is no going back to a time when most people were unaware of just how unequal society is, or only had some vague notion of what caused the economic collapse. People are talking about it (not just the Occupy movement, but the people watching, supporting, and even decrying the movement.) Even those who don't agree with it are still talking about it, and you can bet that future candidates for office are going to have to address what is being said.

A movement doesn't need to have a detailed solution in mind. It doesn't have to work through the proper channels. It honestly just has to be there, be loud, be visible, and things will happen around it. Videos of police attacking unprovoked (pepper spraying women already cordoned off, tossing a flash grenade into a group trying to help a wounded vet, UC Berkeley campus cops striking non-violent students with batons). The CBO's analysis of income distribution. Everyone with a recognizable name who gives their opinion for or against the movement. The rise of and attention to similar smaller issue groups, like the one that started Bank Transfer Day. The world is complex and interconnected. You think it is pointless sit-in? I suggest you go back and read news, blogs, political commentary and articles from six months ago and then try to say that its pointless.

PS, for Dflanmod: I suggest starting with the medical and cooking tents. Those are usually the biggest babies of the movement. Print out your list and read it out loud, preferably right in the middle of the post-assembly food rush or right after an action where there were police beatings. Another good time would be at two AM, with a megaphone, during one of the coldest nights of the year. Hop to it, the people shivering in their sleeping bags need to know what a bunch of lazy hippies they are!

Which camp are you currently at? I would not want you to miss the reading of my list. And are you sure you want me to take a day off from my work to do this as it would lessen the amount of tax money/wealth that can be redistributed to you via your socialist agenda.

I also need you to give me a list of companies that would be pc enough for me to use on my journy there. I certainly would not want to give my patronage to any evil corporations, nor would I want to further damage the enviroment through excessivly carbon heavy travel arrangements.

Please make sure you clear all of these thing through your local occupy comitee and get back to me in a month or so when you managed to pound out a concensus via comunication through bongo drums. I hope you don't freeze to death in your sleeping bag which I am sure is made entirely in America as you no doubt use your dollar to support companies that are keeping jobs in America.

Although I personally disagree with your movement, I applaud all the personal sacrifice you have made on behalf of your beliefs. It's refreshing to see true patriots giving everything for their personal beliefs.

Thought you were "trying hard to stay solidly lower middle class". Didn't realize you'd taken on an extra tax burden too! And after your courageous refusal to use public transit, schools, highways, drinking water, air monitered by the EPA, etc. Ghandi aint got **** on you.

I'm way ahead of you on that second part though.

Anyway, the answer is no. I've thought about it, but my health drops rapidly when i'm out in the cold and the prospect of going without a hot shower for weeks terrifies me. Frankly I don't have the stones.

That's a proposed constitutional amendment introduced which would overturn the Citizen's United decision. I agree that the wording is weak, but how's that for getting something done?

On the news last night, I saw the hippies getting rousted from Zuccotti Park. It was glorious.

It's not a movement and it's not even truly grassroots--the unions were recruiting and paying people to "occupy" for a while. It's the same leftist freakshow circus I've seen over and over again. It wouldn't surprise me if the LaRouche-ites were there. I wonder if there are still "Free Mumia" retards?
